Thin, uniform coatings at production speed
Gravure coating is preferred when the application demands thin, highly uniform coatings at higher line speeds. The engraved roll's precisely defined cells pick up a metered volume of fluid and transfer it to the substrate with inherently consistent coat weights.
How gravure coating works
The engraved roll surface picks up fluid, a doctor blade wipes excess, and the metered fluid transfers to the web at the nip. Coat weight is determined by cell volume — a function of depth, width, and spacing. Different engraving specifications produce different coat weights.
How IMC engineers gravure stations
Roll specification is determined collaboratively based on target coat weight and fluid properties. Doctor blade assemblies provide uniform contact across the full face. Enclosed chamber systems are available for solvent containment. Independent roll drive allows speed ratio optimization.
